FAQ

How and when do I register?

Registration is typically held the month of January and February. New and Returning players must register online. After registration closes, an additional fee of $50 will be added to your registration if spots are still available on a team. Avoid the late fee and register early.

Why do I have to become a US Lacrosse member?

Our insurance coverage is provided by US Lacrosse.  Without this comprehensive coverage, we would have to charge more for a separate insurance policy that would not be as comprehensive as the US Lacrosse policy.  You can view the insurance coverages here:  http://www.uslacrosse.org/membership/insurance.aspx

Can my child play with his/her friends?

We strive to form teams by high school alignment or neighborhood relative to geographic areas based upon where the kids will play in High School.  It is our intent to conform to the goals of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) standards similar to other athletic programs.

Do I get a discount if I have more than one child in SYL?

Yes, and the online billing system generates the discount amount automatically.

When do practices start?  When and where are they held?

Practices generally begin in March depending on weather and field availability and run through the April-May season. Each coach or assistant coach are responsible for establishing a practice schedule that works for them. Typically the younger teams will have 1 or 2 practices per week; the older teams have 3 or even 4 practices per week. We try our best to avoid conflicts with other spring sports, but some inevitably occur. Field space is difficult to acquire and schedule.  Keep in mind that the coaches need to know in advance when a player will be missing from a practice or a game.

When do games begin? When and where are they held ?

Games usually begin mid April and run through the first weekend in June.  Games will be played at  Dwight Merkel Sports Complex and/or Franklin Park.  As our league continues to grow, we may play at other venues.  Each game will last about an hour.  Expect that your child will be RUNNING for the better part of 30-40 minutes during a game.

What if I register my child late?

We want to ensure that every child who wants to play can do so. However, players who register late may be put on a waiting list for team placement or they may be placed on a team outside of their typical alignment.  A late fee will apply.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are subject to a $25 handling fee.

What equipment will my child need?

Please refer to the link from the Home page "Required Equipment" for a complete list of equipment requirements for Boys and Girls.

Can I volunteer? If so, how?

YES! We appreciate and need volunteers! As we are a volunteer organization, your help is greatly appreciated. Please contact the league Administrator at at 869-1697 or  [email protected]

My child is rather large for his age group and is athletically gifted.  Can my child play up an age group?

Yes we have a play-up policy. It's as follows:

SYL will review play-ups for registered players only after League registration has ended, and under special consideration by the Board of Directors (BOD).  There is no guarantee that the BOD will approve any play-up.

The BOD will consider play-ups based on the following:

  1. A recommendation from the previous year’s coach.

  2. The coach who will receive the player will need to provide approval.

  3. A recommendation from a board member that has met with the player and his family.

  4. A vote by the board after reviewing the recommendations by the coach and board member.

  5. A position is available on a team in the player’s area.

  6. The parents of the player sign a statement recognizing the dangers of playing in an older and more experienced age group.

  7. The parents sign a hold harmless statement for SYL.

  8. The parents/player pay any difference between the registrations.

The consideration will have to come thru the Area Director who will also have input into the process.
