Q. How and when do I register?

A. Registration is held from December into February. New and Returning players must register online.  For those without internet access, computers will be available at in-person registration - location and time to be announced on our website in
January.

Q. Why do we register players so early?

A. Our league registration numbers determine the number of Coaches we must recruit & train, uniforms we must order, the amount of new equipment we must purchase and the number of practice and playing fields we must reserve. This all takes time and is done strictly by volunteers. We must register children by February in order to get them on the playing field the following Spring.

Q. Can my child play with his/her friends?

A. We attempt to formTeams by school / neighborhood for car pooling purposes. Children can request that they be placed on a team with a "buddy". We can normally satisfy that request. Siblings playing in the same division are always placed on the same team.

Q. Do I get a discount if I have more than one child in SYL?

A. Yes and the online billing system generates the discount amount automatically.

Q. Are Scholarships available?

A. Reduced Registration Fee and Full Scholarships are available upon eligibility verification. Go to the downloadable forms section download and complete the scholarship form.  Please complete the online registration process, then mail the scholarship form to SYL , 714 W Bolan Ave. , Spokane WA 99224 and a League Representative will contact you regarding your application.

Q. Can I help provide scholarship for other children?

A. Yes, you can provide a donation when you register and Corporate Matching Funds are encouraged. Scholarships are needed and much appreciated every year.

Q. When do Practices start?  When & where are they held ?

A. Practices begin in March and run through the season. Each coach / asst. coach are responsible for establishing a practice schedule that works for the 2 of them. Typically the Squirts and Juniors will have one or at most 2 practices per week. We try our best to avoid conflicts with other spring sports, but some inevitably occur. Keep in mind that the coaches need to know in advance when a player will be missing from a practice or a game.

Q.  When do games begin? When and where are they held ?

A.
Games begin in late March or early April and run through the end of the school year. We will again try to hold all games
at Gonzaga Prep Stadium field's turf facility on Sunday afternoons, probably running on the hour, beginning at 2 or 3 pm - through 6 pm.  Expect that your child will be RUNNING  for the better part of 30-40 minutes during a game.

Q. What happens if I register my child late?

A. We want to ensure that every child who wants to play can do so. However, players who register late may be put on a waiting list for team placement. This applies particulary to players 9 and older.

Q. Can I get a refund?

A. Refunds are subject to a $35 handling fee, $50 after the teams are formed, and no refunds after the first game.

Q. What equipment will my child need?

A. Please refer to the link from the Home page for a complete list of equipment requirements for Boys and Girls.

Q. How do I volunteer?

A. As we are a volunteer organization, your help is greatly appreciated. Please contact any Board member on the Contacts page to find out how you can participate.

Q. How often is the Web site updated?

A.
SYL is a volunteer organization. The Web site is updated as soon as possible; as such, the information on this Web site is subject to change without prior notice.

Q. Whom do I contact if I have more questions?

A. Please contact the appropriate Divisional Coach directly or any of our Board members.

 Q.
What about conflicts with other activities?
When do we play ? Can my son or daughter play T-ball, or kick-ball, or baseball and lacrosse? Can my child play spring soccer and lacrosse?

Without question, our children are presented with numerous enriching opportunities, both on the athletic field and in other areas. With so many events in their lives, and their family’s lives, it is inevitable that there will be scheduling conflicts.  As stated in our mission statement, the sport of Lacrosse has had positive benefits in our lives, hence our desire to expose your children to the sport and our philosophy.
As a result, we have made an earnest attempt to avoid scheduling our recreation lacrosse events at a time that would normally be utilized by other activities. Our season runs from April to early June. Your time and place generally will be the same each week, we truely work to avoid running from one field to the next. Our introductory clinic, at which we have guest instructors, is scheduled for  Saturday Morning, 10-12am  on 3/XX - we will announce on that date the dates of an additional clinic immediately prior to Team selections.  In addition, our recreation league games are played Sunday afternoons in order to avoid the Saturday morning activities such as spring soccer, T-ball, baseball etc…. There may be a few conflicts that occur, but for the most part our Sunday afternoon 3-6 or 4-7 time slots should allow children to do multiple activities in the Spring if they so choose.  With the cooperation of other sports and leagues, hopefully we can provide healthy and abundant opportunities for our children.

How can I prioritize all the sports my children are in?

Generally, attendance at a game, in any sport, should take precedent over a practice. In the case where there are 2 game conflicts, we hope that the coaches and the players use fair and good judgment so that no team in any sport is left without a compliment of players to compete, but ultimately it is up to the participant to prioritize. We will strive to limit the number of conflicts that you and your children will face. We hope that our efforts, along with those of the other sporting leagues, will help you and your children have an enjoyable spring.
