Required Equipment
Before running off to buy brand new equipment check to see if there is any lightly used gear in the Gear Exchange: For players out growing your current gear - if you can't hand it down to a brother or sister - post it on our Gear exchange bulliten board.
Equipment-
Mouth Guards for boys and girls are required at all levels.
Soccer Style cleats acceptable or any sturdy athletic shoe

BOYS - ( If getting a new helmet, get an all white helmet )
SYL will provide all required gear for both Boys & Girls Goalies
3rd & 4th Grades
Although SYL strongly recommends the purchase of a certified lacrosse helmet, the use of ice hockey helmets (with a FULL face mask extending below the chin) is allowed. Other hockey equipment (shoulder pads and elbow pads) may also be used. Hockey gloves do not work well for lacrosse at any level, as they have a stiff, non-flexible thumb. Protective cups should be worn by all boys.
5th-6th Grades
Only certified Lacrosse helmets may be used. Other hockey equipment (shoulder pads and elbow pads) may also be used. Hockey gloves do not work well for lacrosse at any level, as they have a stiff, non-flexible thumb. Protective cups should be worn by all boys.
7th-8th Grades:
Only certified Lacrosse helmets may be used. Hockey shoulder pads work, but elbow pads and gloves will not work. Lacrosse specific gloves and elbow/forearm pads are needed. Rib pads, while not required, are recommended. Protective cups are required by all players in these grades.
Girls

Mouth Guards for boys and girls are required at all levels.
Girls Sticks are different from Boys sticks - they have a much more shallow pocket and the handle is thinner. Often they have pastel color treatments to make it easier to identify them.
Protective Eyewear now required for all girls:
U.S. Lacrosse approved protective goggles are now required for all girls participating in the SYL lacrosse program. Big 5 and Joes's Sports stores carry these in stock. Please make this purchase for your daughter as soon as possible to insure that she will be properly equipped for the start of the season.
